Steelers at Patriots is a 1:00 PM EDT kickoff on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Gillette Stadium, and the most useful planning fact is that the building runs on its usual Patriots-game rules: mobile ticketing only, cashless payments only, and the clear-bag policy. The official parking and ticketing windows open four hours before kickoff, so the published start point for this game is 9:00 AM. If you are driving, rideshare and taxi service are routed to Lot 15 near the CVS Health Gate, while the stadium also offers commuter-rail support for Patriots games through special event service. For fans who want to stay in the stadium district, Patriot Place has practical pregame stops and game-viewing options, but there is no separate official matchup party announced in the material reviewed. Final

Final score and recap

New England Patriots 20, Pittsburgh Steelers 3

The New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-3 on September 20, producing a Week 2 win built primarily on defense, rushing production and explosive gains through the air. New England scored seven points in the first quarter, three in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth. Pittsburgh managed only three second-quarter points and was held scoreless in the other three periods. Without a supplied play-by-play, the box score does not establish the order of individual scoring plays, but the 17-point margin accurately reflects several substantial statistical advantages for the Patriots. The clearest difference was New England’s work against Aaron Rodgers. Pittsburgh’s quarterback completed 23 of 39 passes for 187 yards, averaging only 4.8 yards per attempt. He threw no touchdown passes, was intercepted once and took four sacks for 43 lost yards. Rodgers also fumbled twice and lost one. The Patriots therefore limited Pittsburgh’s passing game despite facing 39 attempts, and the Steelers’ eight punts offer another measure of how often their offense ended without points. Elijah Ponder supplied the most complete defensive stat line for New England: five tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, a fumble recovery and a fumble-return touchdown. Rookie Gabe Jacas made the Patriots’ interception and returned it 11 yards while also recording a quarterback hit and a pass defended. Christian Elliss led the team with 12 tackles and added a sack, while Christian Barmore and Joshua Farmer each registered a sack. Behind them, Charles Woods had 10 tackles and a pass defended, and Christian Gonzalez recorded two passes defended. New England’s passing offense was less busy but considerably more productive per attempt. Drake Maye completed 14 of 22 passes for 208 yards, an average of 9.5 yards per attempt. He did not throw a touchdown and was intercepted once, and Pittsburgh sacked him three times for 17 yards in losses. Even with those negative plays, Maye finished with 21 more passing yards than Rodgers on 17 fewer attempts. That efficiency gave the Patriots a source of offense beyond their scoring plays, although the interception and sacks remain clear areas for improvement. Romeo Doubs was the leading New England receiver with three catches for 96 yards on four targets. His 63-yard reception was the longest listed gain for either passing game, and his 32 yards per catch supplied much of the explosiveness behind Maye’s average. Hunter Henry added three catches for 40 yards, including a 29-yard reception, while rookie Eli Raridon caught his only target for 30 yards. Pittsburgh did not produce a comparable receiving line: DK Metcalf was held to four receptions for 27 yards on nine targets, while rookie Germie Bernard led the Steelers with 35 receiving yards. The Patriots also received their most sustained rushing contribution from TreVeyon Henderson, who carried 16 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. His 39-yard run was New England’s longest rushing gain. Rhamondre Stevenson added 43 yards on six attempts, including a 24-yard run, but lost a fumble. Maye contributed 17 yards on four carries. For Pittsburgh, Jaylen Warren had 43 yards on 11 attempts, and Rico Dowdle managed 22 yards on seven carries. Neither Steelers back scored. New England’s scoring was also supported by a productive kicking line. Andy Borregales made two of three field-goal attempts, with a long of 45 yards, and converted both extra points for eight total points. Henderson’s rushing touchdown and Ponder’s fumble-return touchdown account for the Patriots’ two listed touchdowns. In the return game, Marcus Jones returned four punts for 40 yards, averaging 10 yards with a long of 19. Pittsburgh punter Cameron Johnston averaged 48.1 gross yards across eight punts and placed three inside the 20. Pittsburgh’s defense did create problems that the Patriots cannot dismiss. T.J. Watt recorded 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hits, while Alex Highsmith added a sack, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits. Patrick Queen made Pittsburgh’s interception, and Payton Wilson recorded a fumble recovery. Those contributions help explain why New England finished with only 20 points despite Maye’s passing efficiency and multiple long gains. From the Patriots’ perspective, the strongest takeaway is the defensive breadth behind the result. New England pressured the passer, produced an interception and a defensive touchdown, and allowed Pittsburgh no offensive touchdowns. The offense complemented that work with Henderson’s 76 rushing yards and an efficient, explosive passing line. Ball security and pass protection were imperfect, but the Patriots overcame those issues because Pittsburgh generated only three points and far less value from its passing attempts.

  • New England held Pittsburgh to three points, four scoreless quarters except the second, and no offensive touchdowns in a 20-3 victory.
  • Elijah Ponder recorded a sack, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.
  • Drake Maye threw for 208 yards on 22 attempts, while Romeo Doubs produced 96 yards and a 63-yard reception.
